God’s Time-Out: Why is it scary to be quiet?

I usually start my “And Then God Gave Me A Time-out” speech by discussing my “crazy-busy” life. We all seem to have crazy-busy lives these days. We have different things that make us “crazy-busy”, but none-the-less we all seem to understand this idea of “crazy-busy”. It is in this very context that time-outs are most profound I think.

When I had my time-outs I must admit that it was very scary to be so quiet. I did not understand why being quiet was so scary. Hadn’t I wanted more down-time? Hadn’t I tried to see how I could slow life down? If so, why was the time-out so scary? Why was it so hard to embrace?

Over time I began to realize that it is easy to hide in the busyness of life. We can get lost in our to-do lists, in trying to serve and please everyone. The busyness of life gives us “cover” to avoid the important questions, the meaningful questions such as “Who am I?” or “What is my purpose in life?”

REFLECTION: Does this quieter life scare you at all? In your “crazy-busy” life, what questions are you hiding from do you think?

What do you think?
